Since 1992, the City has swept streets to benefit lake water quality. Street sweeping helps keep debris and nutrients out of lakes and ponds. The City has about four priority sweeping times per year.  The focus is on the following:

• Spring Sweeping - The first round of spring sweeping starts as soon as the weather permits. The surface needs to be completely dry before we can sweep. It takes crews 4-6 weeks to sweep the entire City once.
   
• Sealcoat Sweeping - The first round of sealcoat sweeping will occur soon after the initial application. Additional sweeping will continue about 2-3 more times during this summer months. If necessary we will come back to sweep  in certain areas and monitor conditions. It is common for excess rocks to shed for up to 2 years.
   
• Water Resources Sweeping - About four times per year, the city collects debris in the spring and fall on approximately 35 miles of streets near selected waterbodies (Water Quality Sweeping Map).  
   
• Fall Sweeping - The first round of fall sweeping will start sometime in September depending on conditions. It takes crews 6-8 weeks to sweep the entire City once. 

Help us Keep our Lakes and Ponds Clean

Everything that lands in the streets eventually travels through the storm drainage system to lakes and ponds. Remember that leaves and grass should stay on your yard and not be raked or placed onto the streets. This is not only illegal but also harms both lakes and equipment. Try mulching leaves into your lawn, composting them in a backyard container or bringing them to a compost center.
