From Experience Eagan | April-May 2021 - Keeping pedestrians and bicyclists safe on busy roads, especially in school areas, is a challenge that requires all of us working together to solve. Through community engagement, input, and collaborative planning among Dakota County,
ISD 196, and the City of Eagan, a plan to enhance Diffley Road (County Road 30) will get underway this spring.
A section of the road will be converted to one lane of traffic in each direction between Lexington Avenue (County Road 43) and Braddock Trail. The construction project will include two single-lane roundabouts at Daniel Drive and Braddock Trail, and a new access to Dakota Hills Middle School from Daniel Drive and the Dakota Hills Middle School parking lot.
The plan has been adopted by all partner agencies because it best addressed these objectives:
- Increase pedestrian safety and connections
- Increase awareness of school area
- Provide safe facilities
- Lower vehicle speeds
- Reduce pedestrian and vehicle conflict points
While some construction will begin in May, full construction (including road closure and detours) will begin in June. Full project information is available on the Dakota County website.
