Join the Eagan Police

There are many reasons officers join the Eagan Police Department: to help people, for the variety of work, or because they want to be part of a diverse and friendly department.

Eagan officers also find the community very supportive and involved. The department is intentional about creating opportunities for community involvement, from events meeting residents to volunteering with community groups while on duty.

Our Values

The Eagan Police Department is committed to providing public safety and maintaining public trust by serving with respect and professionalism.

We believe the key to our success is in hiring high quality officers and support staff while providing them with excellent training, equipment, and supervision.

Eagan police officers can choose from a variety of career paths, but all officers are part of the diverse and supportive work environment.

"Eagan's kind of the premiere law enforcement agency in Minnesota," says Patrol Officer Aaron Machtemes. "They really invest in their officers with training, and even wellness programs."

Hiring Process

All new police officers participate in a four-week in house academy. After the academy, new officers are paired with three field training officers until they transition to solo patrol. The Eagan Police field training program rewards hard work and high standards and works to develop recruits into reliable police officers who have the desire and ability to serve our community with compassion and courage.

As the wants and needs of our community change, we need to be able to change how we do things, as well.
