IS A HEAT PUMP RIGHT FOR YOUR HOME?
As temperatures begin to cool, now’s a great time to start thinking about keeping your home comfortable through the winter.
Heat pumps are an efficient, electric heating-and-cooling solution that may help lower your energy use year-round. To learn if this option might be good for your home, join us at “Stay Cool, Stay Warm: Heat Pumps Demystified” on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
This session explores how heat pumps work, how to choose the right system for your home, and resources for planning your next heating and cooling project. Whether you’re replacing aging equipment or want to learn more about your options, you’ll leave ready to make an informed decision.
Find details and register at electrifyeverythingmn.org/events. Can’t attend? Learn more about heat pumps at electrifyeverythingmn.org/ashp.
WHY ARE FIBER COMPANIES DIGGING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AGAIN?
Another fiber company is coming to Eagan, and for some neighborhoods, that means construction in areas where fiber was recently installed.
The City does not decide which telecommunications companies can serve Eagan or when they build their networks. Minnesota law gives providers access to public rights-of-way, so the City generally cannot prevent additional companies from installing fiber.
What the City can do is regulate how the work is completed. We require permits, set expectations for resident notification, monitor construction, and require restoration of disturbed areas.
This fall, Ziply Fiber will become the third fiber provider installing in Eagan this year. We know repeated construction is frustrating and will continue working to minimize disruption and hold providers accountable.

CLEAR SNOW & ICE FROM FIRE HYDRANTS

The City of Eagan Fire Department and Public Works Division are asking residents to clear hydrants of snow and ice near their homes, so they’re accessible in an emergency.
Simply shovel a three-foot path around your hydrant and don’t let it get buried in snow. If you can’t see your neighborhood hydrant, neither can firefighters in an emergency. If you can’t see your neighborhood hydrant, neither can firefighters in an emergency.

Garbage Cans
Place garbage cans 3 feet back from the street.
Mailboxes
Be sure your post is sturdy, and ensure your mailbox measures 48 inches high from bottom of curb to bottom of box. Also, the front of your mailbox and newspaper box should be 10 inches behind the curb.
Stake Your Curbline
Mark corners and curbs for plows with stakes. Six free stakes are available per house beginning Oct. 19 at the Eagan Maintenance Facility (3501 Coachman Pt.).
CITY REDUCES PROJECTED 2027 LEVY INCREASE

As the City of Eagan plans for 2027, City Council and staff are working to balance two important priorities: maintaining the services residents rely on and being mindful of the impact property taxes have on households and businesses.

HOW SHOULD EAGAN LOOK IN 2050?

The City of Eagan is developing its 2050 Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan), which will guide how the community grows and evolves over the next 25 years. Based on regional growth, Eagan needs to plan the addition of 4,600 housing units in that time, and this spring the City set about getting residents’ feedback on how that growth should look.

PROTECT AND IMPROVE OUR WATER
We value our water in Eagan and want to keep pollution out of our lakes, wetlands, and ponds.
Did you know that anything entering a storm drain flows directly into our lakes, wetlands, and ponds? You can help protect and improve our water by raking your yard waste away from streets and keeping grass clippings, pet waste, and trash out of roads.
You can also take your help a step further by adopting a storm drain. Adopt-A-Storm Drain is an opportunity for residents, groups, and businesses to clean up storm drain grates and surrounding areas.
More Volunteer Opportunities
- Label storm drains: Help spread the message “Keep Pollutants Out, Drains to Lake” by gluing curb markers near street storm drains.
- Clean up lakes: Water Resource staff can offer directions as well as lend trash grabbers and provide garbage bags.

Compost To Help Sweeping Crews
Road crews are out on our streets sweeping this fall to help prevent debris from washing down our storm drains. Consider helping them out by retaining clippings on your lawn — or by bagging them. You can also compost leaves and grass at home or bring them to a compost site.
Remember: It’s illegal to put leaves and yard waste in the streets, even when the sweeper is coming.
