Class Descriptions

Snowplow 1-4- (formerly Beginner 1-4)Skaters ages 3-6 years develop preliminary coordination and strength to move around the ice. The introductory classes are divided into four progressive levels for kids with no prior skating experience to build confidence in skating and themselves. Fun and games make this positive experience for your kids enjoyable and memorable.

Basic Skills 1-6 -(formerly Pre-Alpha - Delta) These lessons put the FUN in FUNdamentals as your skaters enjoy learning the basic of ice skating. The first stage of skills form a strong foundation for your skaters to explore the world of skating. All will progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. This will encourage skaters to trade in hesitation for excitement as they grow a love for skating. Fundamentals harness those skills as agility, balance and coordination become the main focus of this curriculum.

Free Skate -(formerly Freestyle 1-10) Each Free Skate level is divided into three sections; skating skills, spins and jumps. These levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation and it is at this point the skater can choose to pursue a Recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating. More progressive skating skills like these give more determined skaters the challenges they crave.

Practice Ice -This ice time allows for all skaters to practice skills learned in classes for faster progression.

Practice Ice with Lesson-This is an opportunity for skaters to receive specialized one-on-one learning from a qualified skating Instructor. Skaters of all ages and levels benefit from private lessons, which help them learn and progress at an accelerated pace. During this session your skater will receive a 15-minute private lesson from an Eagan Skate School Instructor. The remainder of the ice time will be used for practicing to reinforce skills learned. This is an introductory offer. Skaters are eligible for this class for two sessions.

Adult Open Skate w/Lesson: This is an opportunity for Adult skaters to receive specialized one-on-one learning from a qualified skating Instructor. During this session, you will receive a 15-minute private lesson from an Eagan Skate School Instructor. The remainder of the ice time will be used for practicing to reinforce skills learned.

Homeschool: This is an hour long session which includes 30 minutes of group instruction and 30 minutes of practice for skaters ages 7+.

Hockey Skating Skills - Before you can score a goal, you need to learn to skate. In the hockey program, skater will learn how to be proficient and agile on the ice. The Eagan Skate School offers a Hockey 1-2 class and a Hockey 3-4 class. Skaters must have passed Snowplow 4 to register for Hockey 1-2.

Adults - Never too old to learn how to ice skate or brush up on your skating skills for those adults wanting to stay active.

Synchronized Skating -The combination of speed, artistry and technical skills makes synchronized skating great for those interested in being part of a team.

Showcase Ensemble: Free Skate level skaters highlight choreography and presentation for a showcase ensemble program to perform at exhibitions and the annual Spring Ice Show. Skaters are required to register for both Winter and Spring as well as register for a group number in the Spring Ice Show.

Class FAQs

Skates: Proper equipment is the first step towards a positive skating experience. Skates should be leather, properly fit and provide adequate ankle support. Skates should be sized and fit by a skate professional and should not be purchased for the skater to 'grow into'. This will create bad skating habits early on. The fit of the skate should feel snug. A skater should be able to walk in their skates with ankle support not allowing ankles to 'wobble' or pronate. Adjustable plastic recreational skates are not recommended. Double runners are not allowed during skate school.

Hockey skates or Figure skates: It is recommended that new skaters begin with a figure skate. The hockey blade is rocked and provides much less stability for our younger skaters. Please no hockey skates for those enrolled in Snowplow 1-4. Skates are available to rent.

Skating Attire: We strongly suggest skaters wear snow pants, helmets and gloves/mittens; especially for skaters ages 6 & under. Helmets are available to rent.

Class info:

  • No Make-Up Lessons
  • Parents/Family/Friends not allowed in the hockey boxes during class
  • Lesson participants only allowed on the ice
  • Everyone on the ice must be in skates; no shoes or boots are permitted on the ice
