Eagan adopts 10-year plan for future biking and walking connections for all

We are proud of the 120 miles of trails and 35 miles of sidewalk we have in Eagan, and are always looking for more routes to meet our current and future needs.
Since April, 2019, our Public Works and Parks & Recreation teams have been working together,  with you, to develop Eagan's Bike and Pedestrian Transportation Master Plan (Bike and Pedestrian Plan). Together we create safe and accessible walking and bicycling paths for all abilities.

The plan process:

Planners gathered information from current trails and sidewalks, looked at where people live, play, exercise, work, connect to transit, and shop, and then asked for your thoughts.

In fact, over 500 comments were received from the community for the plan. It resulted in a 10-year Bike and Pedestrian Transportation Master Plan which identified over 100 connection opportunities and shared 26 priorities.

Some key connections include:

•    connecting the sidewalk on Denmark Avenue and Duckwood Drive to Town Centre Drive
•    safety lanes along Nicols Road and Silver Bell Road from Highway 13 to the Minnesota River Greenway trailhead
•    connecting Blackhawk Road to the Highline Trail

"We took a comprehensive approach to our planning and worked to include everyone." said Director of Public Works Russ Matthys. "Looking
at our whole trail and sidewalk system, we tried to discover how, when, and why people connect to where they want to go, and what connections might be missing."
Matthys added, "We hope the community will see the value in this plan, and that it reflects the priorities they all shared with us. We are excited to get to work to build it out over the coming years!"
