Eagan Seeks Community Input as City Studies Future Data Center Regulations

—  In February 2026, the Eagan City Council adopted a one-year moratorium on larger data centers and those near residential areas. The moratorium gives the City time to study the issue and consider whether new or updated regulations are needed. It runs through Feb. 17, 2027, unless ended earlier by the Council.

The City will host a drop-in Data Center Ordinance Community Input Session on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Residents can stop in anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. to share concerns, identify questions they believe the City should research, and provide input on what the City should consider as potential regulations are developed.

There will not be a presentation or question-and-answer session. Instead, participants can move through several stations and share their input in a variety of ways. City staff will be available to listen, help collect comments, and make sure community questions and perspectives are captured for consideration as the City continues its research.

Facilitated stations will give residents opportunities to share questions, concerns, priorities, and ideas related to data centers. Written and anonymous comments will be welcomed, with online feedback available as well.

Feedback from the drop-in input session and online engagement will be organized into major themes for consideration by the Advisory Planning Commission and City Council. The City will also publish a summary of what it heard, including frequently raised questions and issues requiring additional research.

At this stage, Eagan is listening and learning. Community input will help shape the questions the City examines, and the outcomes it considers before decisions are made.
