City of Eagan and American Legion Partner on Memorial Plaza Addition Honoring Women Veterans
Eagan, MN — The City of Eagan, in collaboration with the Daniel R. Olsen American Legion Post 594, has announced a new addition at the Eagan Memorial Plaza to honor and celebrate the women who have proudly served in the United States Armed Forces.
Under the partnership, the American Legion will serve as the fundraising and project coordination arm, and as the primary contact with the artist and managing private donations to support the creation of the statue. The City of Eagan will provide the site, oversee and cover installation costs and labor, and assume ownership of the statue upon completion.
The project will add a statue recognizing women veterans, standing as a lasting tribute to their strength and leadership, and the vital role women have played in defending freedom throughout our nation’s history. “This project is an opportunity to expand the story told at Memorial Plaza and ensure it reflects the full breadth of service in our community,” American Legion Post 594 Commander John Rayman said. “We’re proud to help lead the fundraising efforts for a memorial that will have lasting meaning.” City administration has expressed full support for the project.
Eagan Parks and Recreation Director Andrew Pimental added, “The City is pleased to partner with the American Legion on this meaningful addition. Memorial Plaza is a place of reflection and honor, and this project aligns with our commitment to preserving and enhancing that space for the community.”
The American Legion’s fundraising goal is $35,000 to purchase the statue. Community members interested in supporting the project can learn more about the Memorial Plaza and existing memorials at post594.org/links/eagan-tribute-and-memorial-plaza.
Information about the American Legion’s fundraising efforts, including how to donate, is available at their GiveMN page: givemn.org/story/EaganWomenStatue.
Additional project details and timelines will be shared as the effort progresses.
