Eagan Parks & Recreation is committed to excellence in every program or activity it plans, organizes and directs. Certain programs allow the public to play a crucial role as a volunteer to make the program successful. The following is a list of the programs that utilize volunteers. Volunteers needed to work at community special events held throughout the year. These are typically one day events held on a weekend day.
Family Ice Fishing Try-It (January): Assist families with ice fishing tasks such as checking out poles, baiting lines, removing fish from hooks and other fishing tasks.
Senior Volunteer Gala (April): Help serve lunch to senior citizens as our senior volunteers are honored at a special luncheon event. Held during a weekday during day hours.
GPS Race (May): Work silly family-fun amazing race type of challenges as racers compete to find locations using only GPS coordinates and finish challenges in several local cities.
Holz Farm Events (May, September, December): Volunteer at Eagan’s 1940’s era farm helping at our one and two day festivals. Need welcome greeters, concession workers, family activity helpers (rope making, butter churning, hay rides, pony rides, arts & crafts, play areas and more). Each volunteer receives a free lunch at the event. Events held include Spring Festival (May), Lone Oak Days (September) and Old Fashioned Holiday (December).
Eagan Market Fest (Wednesdays, 4 – 8 pm, June – September): Volunteer for one Wednesday evening or several. Market Fest is a large community event held 15-17 weeks each year featuring a large farmer’s market, summer concerts, free kid’s art area and theme nights with value-added activities. Assist at the kid’s art, information booth, kid’s games and other market needs.
Food Truck Festival (September): Volunteer at the one-day food truck festival at the Eagan Festival Grounds as a greeter, logistical support, recycling educator and crowd control duties.
Halloween Hodgepodge (last Sunday in October): Over 100 volunteers are needed to run children’s carnival games, arts & crafts, activity hosts, decorating for the event, and other tasks. Photo by Robert McGrath.
Streets Alive (September, even years): Volunteers needed to support Eagan’s newest event promoting walking, running, biking, rollerblading and healthy communities. This event spans 1.5 miles of shut-down road and trails with booths and fun activities for all ages. Need assistance as event greeters at the information booth, road monitors, activity hosts running family-friendly kid’s activities and games, event set-up and clean-up.
Assist staff in leading activities for children ages 5 – 13 years old who have physical and developmental disabilities. A background check is required prior to volunteering in this program.
Friends of the Farm
There are volunteer opportunities for senior citizens and those who enjoy working with seniors. From room and activity hosts to assisting at senior focused special events, there are many ways to give back to the community.
